Land Acknowledgement
We want to acknowledge that our National Program Deployment Centre is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the traditional territory of the Chonnonton, Anishnaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples. This territory is within the lands protected by the Dish with One Spoon wampum – which calls upon us to share the land and its resources fairly, represented by a shared dish and spoon, and to keep the dish clean by caring for the land and ensuring peace among all who share it.
We acknowledge the enduring presence, knowledge and philosophies of Indigenous Peoples. We recognize that the responsibility of helping children learn to read belongs to the whole community, and we are grateful for the rich traditions of Indigenous cultures that emphasize storytelling, knowledge-sharing, and the intergenerational transmission of learning.
We encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the lands they live, work, and learn on. To learn more about the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities where you are, we invite you to visit Native-Land.ca.
