Sponsor Opportunities

Be a Strong Start® Sponsor

Strong Start® is a community project that relies on the commitment of many people and organizations who want to make a contribution to our community. Funds are needed to support the development of new programs (e.g. Get Ready For School, Baby Literacy, Helping Immigrant Children) and for the expansion of our long-standing Letters, Sounds and Words - Standard program.

Funding is needed for:

  • Program kits of materials and maintenance and distribution of these kits
  • Consumable materials used by the children
  • Manuals (consumables)
  • Training programs for Site Co-ordinators and for Volunteers
  • Research and development of the programs within Strong Start®
  • Evaluation of Our Success
  • Volunteer Recognition
  • Parent Resources
  • System of ongoing support for sites and volunteers implementing the program
  • Promotion
  • Support for volunteer recruitment by the sites.
  • Office and administrative costs

Success of our long-standing Letters, Sounds and Words - Standard program

Children’s skills are tested before and after the program in order to document their gains. Teachers and Volunteers are surveyed. The results clearly show that the program is easily implemented by volunteers, greatly appreciated by teachers and results in children making significant gains on tests of these initial reading skills.

Our success actually goes well beyond the gains the children make in learning letters, sounds and words. The statistics reflect only part of how Strong Start® is making a difference in our community.

There are many testimonials of very positive and far-reaching impacts on children, volunteers and the community. Read examples of these true stories in Our Success.

Recognition for Sponsors

  • All sponsors are recognized in presentations, training sessions, promotional material and on this website.
  • For larger donations to our Letters, Sounds and Words program a donor can be named as a sponsor of a particular school for one year. Additonal recognition comes through:
    • the newsletters of the school
    • mention in volunteer recruitment letters
    • labels attached to the bins of materials
    • invitation to join celebration events to meet volunteers, children and staff
  • Further recognition is achieved if the organization develops additional features of its involvement (e.g. a Volunteer Partnership).

Volunteer Partnership

There is an option for a sponsoring organization to develop a partnership that results in its employees/members serving as Volunteer Coaches, working with a child in the program. This enhances the organization’s visibility. Strong Start® staff will support you in promoting this initiative.

Literacy Connections Parent resource

A video and resource document for parents on reading with their child, can be made available to a sponsoring organization for loan to its employees/members. This resource is made possible through a partnership between Strong Start® and Classroom Connections (Toronto), the organization that produces the Literacy Connections materials. Strong Start® will provide the materials and additional tools to set up a loan system. The sponsor organization needs to report back to Strong Start® the number of employees/members who borrowed the material and collect evaluation forms from them.

Additional Opportunities

The Strong Start® Co-ordinator is always searching out partnerships that would result in additional resources or opportunities for Strong Start® sponsors, Strong Start® sites using the program and Volunteer Coaches. Stay tuned!

Every Financial Donation Counts!

  • Donations of any amount are appreciated when applied to the general fund
  • For larger donations you can, as a corporation, service club, community organization, Foundation, individual, etc., be the sponsor of a specific site (e.g. a school, community centre) for that year. This amount supports implementing the program and the continued research and development of the Strong Start® project.

Please join us in strengthening our community and rallying around its children! We would be delighted to meet with you or make a presentation at your convenience. A 8-minute introductory video is also available.
