Strong Start Charitable Organization is pleased to announce the hiring of Colette Moffat as our new Director of Program. Colette brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience in the field of early literacy and early learning. Most recently, Colette has retired from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, where she held a variety of positions related to education.

Colette’s career began as a classroom teacher, spending 15 years with the Toronto Catholic District School Board and later, 6 years with the Waterloo Catholic District School, teaching Kindergarten through Grade 8 in a number of schools. Moving from her role in the classroom, Colette has held a number of positions at the School Board level including serving as an Early Intervention Teacher, an Literacy Support Teacher, and as a Student Achievement Consultant: Literacy K-8, and Student Achievement Consultant: Early Learning.

In the course of her career, Colette has worked directly with the Ministry of Education and a broader network of peers. She is the Additional Qualifications Course Creator and Instructor for Reading Parts 1, 2 and 3 for Niagara University, New York, USA. She has been an active participant in the literacy community across Waterloo Region, representing the Catholic School Board at The Children’s Planning Table, Early Literacy Alliance of Waterloo Region, and Let’s Read, as well as on sub committees of these groups listed above.

In her new role as Director of Program, Colette will be responsible for overseeing the expansion, implementation, and staff supporting our Letters, Sounds and Words™ program and our Get Ready for School™ program, helping to grow our impact. She will also be responsible for supporting the Letters, Sounds and Words program in schools across Wellington County specifically. With over 34 years’ experience in the education field, Colette has developed a passion for literacy and supporting children and youth in becoming successful, literate learners.
