On April 23, 2016, Brantford celebrated the 10th annual 2016 Best Start Parent Fair at the Brantford Civic Centre! This year’s fair drew the largest attendance to date (a total of 639 visitors: 374 adults and 265 children). Parents and children were entertained by a variety of performers which included the Grand River Cloggers and a puppet show performed by the students of Braemare house school. Strong Start was in attendance with (from left) Program Co-ordinator Ruth Mills, and Trainers Kathy Taylor, Lynn Kennedy, and Barb Stokes. Together they gave out 50 information flyers and brochures to parents who might be interested in becoming a Volunteer Coach at their child’s school.

A variety of superheroes strolled the exhibits reminding us all that “we can all be superheroes when we help a child to read.”

It was a great opportunity to visit and network with our school board partners as well. Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board and Grand Erie District School Board were both in attendance.

This event is intended to allow parents to gather information about the various opportunities and services in Brantford and the County of Brant including the program offered at both the County of Brant Public Library, the Brantford Public Library and the Family Literacy Committee of Brant.

It was truly a fun day for all and we look forward to the 2017 event! For more details, visit Best Start Brantford.
